This Relic Forest place gave Zernebog mixed feelings. On one hand, he could admire the Gladiators’ efforts to preserve it and prevent it from becoming spoiled or worse at the hands of Zero or Cipher or whatever the fuck they were calling themselves now. On the other hand though, guarding it so heavily and barring archaeologists and the like to study the place was very counterproductive in his opinion, especially with a rumored time traveler’s shrine in the area ripe for study. It ruffled his (secret nerd) feathers, though not to the point that he would openly say something about it. In the end, it wasn’t his region to mess with after all. [break][break]
Still, something like that wasn’t going to stop his good old curiosity. It just meant that it was more challenging to get the information he wanted. And if by chance his current benefactors also got some more information about one of the other groups or at least their territories along the way, then he could also say that this had been part of his job. Two Starlys with one stone, as the saying goes. [break][break]
That was why he had discreetly managed to sneak by some Gladiator guards to venture deeper into the forest. Of course, not too deep as he had no map to guide himself out with and flying away on Hyperion would be more trouble than it was worth unless absolutely necessary. In fact, right now this was his first venture and it was more to map out the area slowly for himself for future reference. That and maybe he could see if he could strongarm a nerd friend or colleague to digitally construct a map for him with the data he was gathering. [break][break]
And how was he gathering this data? Through pictures, markers –he grimaced but it was a necessary evil, so he just made them subtle- and even crude quick sketches of the places he was passing by. Still, he was wondering where the wildlife was….

[attr="class","hatemyself"] [attr="class","pkmnbox"]  there is an intruder in the forest. a human she does not recognise. from her resting place beneath the dense greenery, she was awoke as a human treads pass. they are not ones she recognises. not one of the humans that make their journey patrolling the forest day by day. so slowly but surely, she rises from her lonely shrub and waddles on the prowl after the interloper. the trespasser.[break][break] she follows the sounds of clicks of his human device he's distracted by. she’s annoyed he hasn’t noticed her yet – that he hasn’t backtracked and peeked down behind trees, low to the ground to to see the tiny shroomish stalking him.[break][break] i-it’s not like she wanted the company or anything. idiot.[break][break] waddling into view, and letting loose a seed bomb, shroomish shows her displeasure.[break][break] Zernebog Romanov |

As Zernebog went along, he saw a Shroomish come into view. It almost looked deliberate actually, which made him wonder, but the sight almost made him smile nonetheless as he put down his camera. [break][break]
Almost, but then he saw its expression right before it hurled a seed from its head and he only managed to dodge in the nick of time. And it was a good thing too, as he heard a soft explosion when it hit the tree behind him. Damn, the thing meant business. Slowly, he started to reach for his jacket pocket with a free hand….[break][break]
”I suppose there’s no talking you out of trying to bomb me into oblivion? Because I’m just passing by, I swear.” He said with a strained, yet patient grin as he tried to placate the Shroomish. He didn’t want to have to fight it and then gain unwanted attention, even though it looked like easy prey. ”I’ll be out of your… spores soon enough.” [break][break]

[attr="class","hatemyself"] [attr="class","pkmnbox"] excuses, excuses. but the shroomish’s beady eyes do narrow in something resembling thought. she looks up at the human, staring intently into its eyes and not at the moving hands below. it only spares one glance to the dented tree behind the human. the dimpled bark is a reminder of her own strength but also a reminder that that it hadn’t fought back yet – only moved to avoid. but anything could do that. it could be tricking her.[break][break] hesitantly, the shroomish totters forward on her own stubs. her mouth is drawn in a pout as she purposefully strides forward. she wants to see if it can trust this human. its eyes now focus on the camera the human was once using.[break][break] the shroomish hesitates again. then, she juts out her belly, wiggling her fraying fleece and strikes a pose.[break][break] Zernebog Romanov |

Okay. The thing wasn’t attacking him again. Good. He didn’t have to break his cover yet or do the more shameful option of run away from something that his team has super type advantage over. Still, he was less worried about personal bodily harm and more about the possible noises this thing can make. That was a significant boom despite the exploding object being a seed, after all. [break][break]
But then he blinked curiously when the Shroomish strode forward closer to him with a pout on its face. It was a bit hard to tell, but it seemed like its eyes were lowering to… his camera? That theory was confirmed when the Shroomish juts out her belly and wiggles in an admittedly adorable manner, before actually striking a pose for him. [break][break]
Wow. Okay. Did this Shroomish think he was some sort of nature photographer? …he could roll with it. He needed wildlife records for area documentation anyway. [break][break]
”Okay, little model.” He remarked with a chuckle as he knelt down on the grass and then set up his camera, focusing on the subject with his lens until he got a good angle and then took a shot, the camera clicking once. He then looked up from the viewfinder to see if the Shroomish wanted to do anything else or if it wanted to pose more.[break][break]

[attr="class","hatemyself"] [attr="class","pkmnbox"] The chuckle gets an even more petulant pout. Her playful pose is ruined as she feels her frown growing once the trainer laughs, The nerve!! But the camera shutters click and there is a ”Shroom…” of discontent. That was clearly not the picture she wanted to be taken. She jumps up and down on her stubs.[break][break] Shroomish is not done. This time, she spins, stopping to fan her fleece for another picture. She expects another click. Shroomish nearly stumbles over herself for the final position, a coquettish 3/4 pose, twisting ever so coyly toward the camera, but she pulls it off. Vogue![break][break] She’s had her share for now. Shroomish has a content frown now and begins to waddle over cautiously to where the human is knelt. She again looks expectantly at him. Again, she does two tiny hops from the forest floor but this time she is not throwing a tantrum. She is trying to scale up Zerne if just without success. It is hard to climb when you are a mushroom with no arms. But she scrambles to get on his lap to puff out her chest, striking one final pose.[break][break] A photoshoot would not be complete to Shroomish without a joint selfie.[break][break] Zernebog Romanov |

Clearly the little Shroomish took offense to his chuckle, so Zernebog made a note to remember that for the future if he ever encountered this Shroomish again. But right now, he had pictures to take because this Shroomish still wanted more if her reaction was an indication. So he kept clicking away at her poses, making sure to adjust his lens for each shot because even when being forced into this –sort of, anyway- he was still going to aim for good pictures. [break][break]
Just when he thought that he was done though, the Shroomish moved even closer and then looked at him up and down. He looked at it curiously and raised an eyebrow, only to then blink in shock when it hopped to him and then tried to get on his lap while he was kneeling. Okay, strange but he sat down this time to let it do what it wanted for the moment… only to be amused when it started posing. With him. [break][break]
”Hold on.” He wasn’t a master in the art of ‘selfies’ but he adjusted his camera the best he could and then pointed it at the both of them. He had a wry grin as he made a victory sign and took the shot with the Shroomish with one final click. [break][break]
Once that was done, he looked down at the Shroomish in his lap, eyebrow quirked up. ”Do you want to see the pictures or is this okay enough for you?” He asked dryly, moving his camera back to his lap beside the Shroomish as he sat on the forest floor.

She made efforts to fit into the camera frame too for the selfie but now she feels she can relax, slacking on his lap. There’s a shake of her whole body to his question: no.[break][break] Shroomish knows those pictures he took are fabulous.[break][break] She hops to the ground, taking a small tumble as she does so. She recovers brusquely, turning back to the human with an accusing glare, watching his reaction. But she doesn’t attack. she has the tiniest smile beneath her permanent frown. almost to hide it, the Shroomish dips down a bit – a bow or curtsy, it’s hard to tell.[break][break] When she rises back up, Shroomish still has watchful eyes but she accepts this human.[break][break] Zernebog Romanov |

The Shroomish didn’t have a head to shake, but the body shake was as close to a non-verbal no Zernebog was probably going to get without having violence involved. He watched as the small pokemon tumbled out of his lap and then stand up as he switches back the settings on his camera to go back into its default mode. He tilted his head when he saw the Shroomish giving him what looked like an accusing stare and another frown, but there was something… different about that frown. Maybe a smile? Maybe something else? It didn’t look as severe as it did the first time. [break][break]
He wasn’t sure that it was perfectly safe yet even after the Shroomish bowed, but it was much easier to maneuver while standing than while sitting so he slowly stood up, keeping an eye on the pokemon as he did so. Then, he bowed back at the waist and gave it a cautious smile. [break][break]
”Alright then. I’ll be going to explore more of the forest now, if you don’t mind.” He then paused for a moment and tilted his head again. ”Unless you want to come along with me to see the sights in the forest or maybe give me a silent tour?” He asked lightly as he adjusted the straps of his backpack.

Well, it looked like the Shroomish didn’t want to come with him. That was fine. It meant that there would no one who would be watching over his shoulder and judging him while he went around the forest. Well, more than the Shroomish already had and the Gladiator guards probably will if they found him in here. [break][break]
”Okay. See ya, then.” He remarked with a small nod and shrug before going on his way forward. He could still feel the Shroomish’s eyes on his back, but since he was sure that it wouldn’t attack him anymore, leaving him free to do his reconnaissance work.[break][break]
Still, the pictorial did eat up some of his valuable time and he would have to probably check his watch in order to figure out what the current theoretical patterns of the patrols were so that he knew where not to go. But before that, as he left he left a mark on one of the trees with a knife to remind him of this area and the pokemon in it before leaving for real….[break][break]
