PERSONALITY: At first glance, Zernebog would seem like more like a soldier than the wanderer and mercenary he says he is - calm, collected, and stern with a steely determination and a glare that could freeze blood. He rarely ever smiles at people, usually preferring flat expressions or smirks at most. This comes with a penchant for bluntness that sometimes hedges on the acerbic and usually does delve into the deadpan. He’s not just a run of the mill thug either, as he’s very intelligent with a well-working brain underneath that face.

Underneath the gruff mercenary demeanor and sane man archetype lurks a creative, mischievous and manipulative person with a penchant for violence and aggression that he has never been able to fully get rid of despite shaping up all those years ago. He’s opportunistic and will do a lot of things in order to get his way, may they be underhanded or not. After all, he thinks that honor and chivalry are nothing but tools and that only chumps and morons adhere to them strictly. Of course, he’s not above yanking people’s chains and causing trouble either just because he can, but he’s learned to restrain that side of him.

It’s no secret that he’s extremely competitive and ambitious, with competitions driving him to do all sorts of things, even those he normally wouldn’t do. This is only made worse by his large ego that almost reaches the realms of true arrogance as well as his determination becoming sheer stubbornness. However, he does has his limits and knows when there’s absolutely no hope of him winning a competition and in turn knowing when to back off and retreat for the moment to fight another day. With this in mind, it’s unsurprising that he tends to hold grudges against those who beat him or wronged him somehow.

Unsurprisingly, it takes a while for him to warm up to people. But when he does, they will find a loyal friend who is willing to go through hell and back for his friends. Deep down, he’s actually warm and kindhearted man who has a tendency to look after and care for the people he’s close to in his own way, a side he’s learned to only show his close friends. He’s pretty much a dork on the inside too, who tends to be on the awkward side when trying to be more affectionate. With people he actually really likes though, he tends to be affectionate without trying or sometimes intending to.

BIOGRAPHY: Zernebog was born in the mountains near Celestic Town as Zernebog Pendragon to Ulrich Pendragon and Mariya Pendragon nee Romanova. He had an unconventional yet good childhood, only to then witness his parents’ divorce at the age of ten after receiving his first pokemon that was followed by his father’s abrupt disappearance. This prompted him to want to go out on a journey to investigate under the guise of a pokemon training journey, but he had been barred from doing it for three years until his grandparents helped him sneak away.

He traveled around different regions, getting by and learning how the world works one step at the time while focusing on looking for leads on his dad. He started out as a naïve, ignorant kid but his experiences travelling through the regions made him tougher, gruffer and stripped off that naivety. Granted, in order to keep his primary objectives he had to turn to the underworld but he persevered and even made a name for himself as a hunter and tracker.

Eventually, he was sidetracked in Alola due to a woman named Ricki Jace in order to do things like the Island Challenge. However, it still worked out in the end because he not only found a girlfriend in said would but also finally tracked his father in that region down in Ula’ula, albeit with a new family. Despite his best efforts to remain civil with the ensuing revelations and his step-mother’s attitude and general presence, things quickly went south after that and his mother was contacted, prompting him to be dragged back to Sinnoh and leaving behind the friends and girlfriend he had there.

After a year and a half, a lot of training and studying along with a name change he managed to convince his mother to tell him travel around again, promising not to go back to Alola unless she went with him. He resumed travelling and is soon drawn to Orre with all of its history by a certain email from a certain organization. He decided to stay there for longer than initially planned, first to test out the waters and then to stay and help out, officially being hired on. Hey, it’s a worthy cause even though Orre is a terribly hot and dry shithole that could use a dozen degrees or so lowered temperatures.

Nowadays, he’s bearing the heat a little better but it’s still bad and sometimes he wishes he had an ice pokemon to help with the heat. At least he has a lot of things to busy himself with, like information gathering and wandering, just like old times though he heard that he was going to get a partner soon. Only less criminal and bloody, which is an improvement. Still secret and shady though.

HISTORY: Given to him by his mother as an egg. They’ve been through thick and thin and their bond’s as close as father and son or brothers, having been with each other for over a decade. He tends to blaze on ahead without thinking, but Zernebog’s used to this sort of thing by now since he attracts the type.

HISTORY: Traded to him by Ricki Jace, in exchange for his Ralts as a farewell gift of sorts. It was once weak, but like its namesake, with hard training it went from zero to hero in no time flat. It’s also a lot more confident now, and oftentimes he has to be reined in when he really gets into something.
