As a child, most of her classmates picked up the (unintentional?) pun in her name, and ran the joke so hard into the ground that it grew stale. Or dragged her over her mother's reputation as the village bicycle. She couldn't tell if the few kids who seemed nice really liked her, or if they were out to collect more dirt to tease her over. It was nearly impossible for her to let her guard down and invite people in.
As an adult, she maintains that impenetrable barrier, though occasionally makes a temporary or superficial ally. Symbiotic relationships are her jam. Everyone benefits (unless it turns parasitic), but knows not to expect too much from the other. Plus everyone knows you can't have more than one best friend, and that slot is taken by Mr. Grunge.

Coupled with her tendency to underreact, make light of serious situations, or an utter lack of sympathy might raise some hairs. She thinks people should just stop being so damn touchy about everything, but what are you gonna do? Oh, and the whole "you're a gang member you introduced crack into the intercity" thing she has going on.
