an active interest in their own employees would greatly benefit zero, emi advised. he’s pleased when they agree with an open mind and an open heart. a week prior to this, he’s handed a small wad of files. at the top of them, a dossier of particular interest on joseph blackwood: orre native, cipher grunt and growing person of interest to the higher-ups. a good a place to start as any. joseph blackwood has been set to come to trial room 4. there, emi waits for him behind a one way mirror. on emi’s side, a stark room with a desk, a monitor and a wide window to look through. on the other side, a room which would be empty if it wasn’t for the bars of a cage in the corner and the mirrored wall. but it won’t be empty for long. tapping the pen against paper, emi only looks up when he hears the clicking of the door in the other room. he smiles – reflexive. he knows he can’t be seen. he almost starts talking. but, a pause as he remembers to lazily move his hand to an intercom and press a finger down. his voice echoes from the speakers in the room. “it’s joseph, right?” emi is audibly stifling a yawn as he asks – he knows it’s joseph. it’s in bold font on the photocopied personnel file he’s vandalised right in front of him. but it never hurts to politely ask. there is rattling from from the cage inside the room but emi pays it no mind. “welcome. having a good day?” Joseph Blackwood
