PERSONALITY: humble, light-hearted, but ultimately aloof, emi takes the descriptor of “well-adjusted” as praise. he’s content – content to have found his place in complete reverence of the pokemon world’s legendaries and content to have found his place in orre, a region completely devoid of any.

but emi finds satisfaction very temporary. his passive personality can make way for obsession if something of interest catches his attention. emi fixates. you best hope he doesn't fixate on you.

BIOGRAPHY: ”a qualitative and quantitative study of the incidence, features and aetiology of legendary pokemon experiences.” it’s his thesis paper that first catches the eyes of cipher scientists while emi is in kalos, wringing grants and funding out of exasperated academies and laboratories. his eventual appointment within zero is contentious among its scientists; some claim professor émilie laurent’s work is mired in pseudoscience, delusion and fiction. emi agrees to disagree.

growing up in ambrette town, emi’s formative years were spent watching archaeologists flood the caves after locals find fossils. from behind his mother’s concierge desk, he’s enraptured. but his mother’s enraptured by other things: the idea of life energy, the supposed inevitable waking of yveltal and, finally, the end of the world. she exchanges her concierge desk for the refuge of what kalos authorities now call a cult. it’s several years before emi returns to ambrette town.

these days the name émilie laurent is renowned among niche experts in pokemon psychology. a few of his papers on human and legendary contact have gained a mix of popularity and notoriety but he's fairly laid-back about it all. now his more thorough research findings are wholly in the hands of zero and emi couldn't be happier. after all, they've been awfully generous with his fieldwork funding this year.
