People stare at Maack as he strolls through the market, twisting his head to occasionally look at the stalls to his right and left. There are a lot of stalls, too, selling things that have no relation to each other whatsoever. Anders gives a few indignant flops from his position in the palm of Maack's hands, getting a few water droplets onto his red tie. Maack stops for a second, reaching into his makeshift briefcase for a bottle of water. He unscrews the lid with his teeth and dumps the contents onto Anders. Most of it drips through his fingers to land on his shoes. The lady standing to his right whispers something in her friend's ear as Maack shrugs his shoulders. " Hey!" He says it to no one in particular, squeezing some water out of his bangs and reaching up to briefly straighten his tie. " You guys want to learn something interesting about these little fellas that you probably never thought of before?" Nobody really reacts to that, though he does get some head turns when he lifts Anders into the air. Maack smiles easily, showing some teeth, and a few people eventually approach to watch the flopping fish in his hands. " Yeah, these guys are pretty useless, but there's more than one way to fry a fish - literally!" The other vendors give him dirty looks as Maack reaches down to dig some snacks out of his briefcase. Kind of makes him wish he set up his own stand, if only for the convenience of it all. KIRAN KHAN

You're on the distant shore! Oceans never listen to us anyway And if I fall into the drink,
I will say your name, before I sink.
| Kiran isn't a nativist, but there are way too many foreigners in Orre these days. You couldn't swing a Wooper in Market Square without hitting one. Sometimes they were the useful kind of foreigner who brought tons of capital with them. Other times, they were a theft report just waiting to happen.
The tricky part is when someone falls right down the middle of those two benchmarks.
The gladiator walks quietly down the street. Gateon is a lawful enough place that people on the street part slightly for him to pass. His uniform requires no explanation here.
Kiran likes to flatter himself thus, but the phenomenon probably had more to do with the Escavalier who walked by his side. What can he say, Shiv liked a bit of fresh air every now and then. Away from the boiling volcanoes.
There's a bit of a commotion by the stalls. Kiran can't help his magpie instinct. He parts the crowd easily. Here comes mercy, condemnation, and judgement all at once.
"Excuse me." Kiran smiles. "I would like to remind you that harming a Pokemon outside of battles is an offense punishable by jail time." He hopes that's the only Magikarp that he's got. Or that he's got the sense not to escalate his trespasses.
It was an absurd law in a land where Colosseum matches were a famous spectator sport. Alas, Kiran is not the man who writes the region's history and customs. He's studied both theology and law. There is no legal system under the world that does not contradict itself. This vendor was just unfortunate enough to cross the common man's interpretation

Maack's got a mouth full of chips when the crowd splits apart in what appears to be perfect unison, creating a sort of makeshift path. It ruins the follow up to his previous statement of how some fish fillet would go great with the chips - instead, Maack just ends up looking kind of stupid, a fish in his hands and leftover chip pieces still stuck to his lips. Anders slaps his hand with a tail and flops once, twice, three times before coming to a complete stop. Maack swallows when he sees the white uniform and escavalier walking towards him. The crowd around him whisper among themselves in unintelligible phrases as he wipes his mouth with the back of one hand. There's some food still stuck between his back teeth, and Maack reaches back with his tongue in order to prod it loose. He wonders how long the crowd will stay before they finally take a hint. " I've done nothing wrong, sir." Maack responds to the man with an even mix of defiance and respect. He balances Anders in one hand and digs around in his briefcase for yet another bottle of water. " I only wanted to give people a different perspective on these 'useless' magikarp. My father believes in their potential, and so do I." Albeit for different reasons. Maack's never seen eye to eye with his dad's insistence on the power after evolution in the name of fetching a pretty penny on the base. As far as he's seen from experience, people live for instant results, instant gratification from the products they purchase. Maack proceeds to dump another bottle of water over Anders. " I can assure you that he's not in any pain." He says, still conscious of the dozen other gazes that watch him from further back. " If that was what you meant." KIRAN KHAN
